Märchenstunde

Client: TÜV

Parent Agency: SOYBLOQ

Goal: To reimagine the classic story of the three little pigs in the context of insurance, using a creative animation style reminiscent of 40s-era cartoons.

Challenge

The key challenge was to create a 2D advertisement that not only tells a compelling story but also resonates with the audience through a nostalgic, hand-made cartoon aesthetic. The animation needed to align with the traditional storytelling elements while incorporating a modern twist around the concept of insurance.

Role and Responsibilities

Sean was a crucial team member, his role involved:

  • Animation Concept and Background
  • 2D Animation Design
  • Creative Animation Techniques
  • Aesthetic and Style Decisions
  • Utilizing Adobe Photoshop, ToonBoom, and Procreate

Strategy

We adopted the rubberhose animation style, well-known from 1940s Disney animations and the videogame “Cuphead,” to achieve an old-school, grungy look. Multiple iterations were made to finalize a fairytale-like aesthetic that would meet the campaign objectives.

Tools and Technologies

  • Software: Adobe Photoshop for image editing, ToonBoom for animation, and Procreate for illustration
  • Additional Effects: Initially considered old film and VHS effects, though these were later omitted for a cleaner look

Results

The campaign successfully combined creative marketing with storytelling, achieving a unique blend of traditional narrative and modern relevance through creative animation. The project underscored our capabilities in producing high-quality 2D advertisements, leveraging a wide array of design tools.
